Provenance and Catalogue Notice

Last updated: 1 July 2026

1. Purpose of this notice

The I tesori della Russia website makes selected information about the collection, artists and individual works publicly accessible. This Provenance and Catalogue Notice explains the scholarly and legal nature of that information.

2. Continuing research

Provenance research, attribution review, title research, dating, localisation, literature research and evaluation of historical exhibition contexts are ongoing processes. Information on this website should therefore be understood as the current state of research and cataloguing and may be changed, refined or corrected when new information becomes available.

3. No guarantee or expert opinion

The publication of a work on this website does not constitute a guarantee, expert opinion, certificate of authenticity, valuation report, export or import law review, title opinion or final provenance confirmation. Terms such as “attributed”, “circle of”, “workshop”, “school of”, “after”, “unknown”, “attribution pending” or comparable indications are to be understood as curatorial or catalogue working terms.

4. Name variants and languages

Artist names, artwork titles and place names may appear in German, English, Russian, transliterated or historical forms. The inclusion of original Russian names serves research, source identification and scholarly traceability. Different spellings do not necessarily indicate different persons, works or provenance lines.

5. Provenance information

Provenance information is maintained to the best of our knowledge and on the basis of available documents, collection data, inscriptions, literature, exhibition information and other sources. Gaps, uncertainties and open questions may remain. The absence of a provenance segment does not mean that such segment has been reviewed, excluded or confirmed.

6. Historical and cultural context

The collection includes works connected with Russian, Soviet, European and neighbouring artistic and cultural contexts. The presentation is intended solely for art-historical documentation and cultural access. It is not a political statement, national appropriation or confirmation of historical narratives.

7. Rights, restitution and third-party notices

GFM-Stiftung takes substantive information concerning authorship, provenance, restitution issues, Nazi-era persecution-related loss, unlawful transfer, cultural property protection, image rights or catalogue errors seriously. Please send such information, with as specific supporting evidence as possible, to info@gfmtrust.net. Incoming information will be reviewed; publication, amendment or removal of information will take place after factual review and in accordance with the available documentation.

8. Use of catalogue data

The catalogue data is intended for public information and scholarly orientation. Systematic extraction, commercial use, database integration, AI analysis or other automated further processing is not permitted without prior written consent unless a statutory permission applies.

9. Corrections and transparency

The website may be updated to include new research findings, more precise translations, improved image data, provenance additions or corrections. Material corrections may be documented transparently in future versions of the catalogue data.
